FIG and Rodney Scott Win James Beard Awards!
The James Beard Foundation yesterday announced the winners for their 2018 awards, which included Charleston’s FIG restaurant and pitmaster Rodney Scott.
After being a finalist for five straight years, FIG finally won the Outstanding Wine Program category. Morgan Calcote is the restaurant’s wine director. FIG is co-owned by Chef Mike Lata and Adam Newmirow, who opened the restaurant in 2003.
Rodney Scott of Rodney Scott’s BBQ won the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Southeast. Not only was this Scott’s first nomination in this category, he is also the first African-American to win it. Scott opened Rodney Scott’s BBQ in downtown Charleston in 2017. He got his start and made is name at his family’s restaurant Scott’s BBQ in Hemingway.
