Before the Charleston RiverDogs play the Columbia Fireflies at 5:05 pm on Sunday, May 20th, the Charleston Fire Department will take on the Charleston Police Department in a “Boots vs. Badges” softball game, beginning at 3 pm.

The double header will take place at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park on the annual city of Charleston Employee and Family Night, an employee appreciation event for which city employees and their immediate families are offered free tickets.

Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg said, “Employee and Family Night is a great opportunity for us to show how much we value the dedication and hard work of all city of Charleston employees. I am especially excited to watch our police and fire departments face off on the field at this year’s event.”

Dave Echols, president and general manager of the RiverDogs, said, “The RiverDogs have held strong relationships with both the police and fire departments throughout the years, and we’re excited to host this softball game so that both new chiefs can evaluate their crews. We encourage city employees and fans to come out early and take part as our first responders battle for bragging rights!”

Anyone with tickets to the 5:05 p.m. RiverDogs game is invited to arrive early and watch the Boots take on the Badges. Gates will open at 2:45 pm.
