Celebrate Turtles with the South Carolina Aquarium this Memorial Day Weekend
The South Carolina Aquarium today announced World Turtle Celebrations for Memorial Day weekend (May 26-28). From special activities to turtle-themed shows and animal enrichment, guests are invited to learn about the many species of turtles that call South Carolina home, from the mountains to the sea.
Five interactive activity stations will be set up from 10 am to 2 pm daily and will feature a different species of turtle found in the Lowcountry. Guests can participate in activities like decorating their own reusable bag (while supplies last) and watch turtles paint a masterpiece. Turtle art will also be available for purchase in the gift shop with proceeds supporting animal care at the South Carolina Aquarium.
Additionally, several of the Lowcountry’s sea turtle teams – Folly Beach Turtle Watch, Isle of Palms Turtle Team, Kiawah Island Turtle Patrol, and Seabrook Island Turtle Patrol – will join the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources at the aquarium on Saturday, May 26th. Each team and SCDNR will have educational table displays set up to share information about the critical work they do to protect sea turtles and their nests.
