In case you missed it, El Jefe Texican Cantina, a Tex-Mex restaurant from local residents Jay Witkowski and Roy Neal, has opened on King Street in downtown Charleston. The community can visit the restaurant for lunch, dinner, and late-night offerings.

El Jefe offers dishes like Tex-Mex inspired tacos, dips, Texican Phos (noodles, protein, and salad), and Hot Sizzle Platters. Diners can also choose from a selection of signature handcrafted cocktails like the “Nitro-rita,” individually made at the table and frozen with liquid nitrogen, as well as the “El Jefe Super Premium Margarita,” made table side with Louis XIII.

The restaurant says their signature item is the Ribeye Steak Tacos, marinated for seven days in a Hawaiian soy sauce, filled with red cabbage, pico de gallo, and chipotle aioli, and topped with cotija queso. The Texican Pho is any early guest favorite too – made with seven ingredients and topped with a fried egg.

The 4,500 square-foot space features indoor and bar seating. It’s in the former home of Kingdom Bar & Grill.

El Jefe opens at 11 am daily for lunch and dinner. Mondays feature an appreciation night for the service industry, Tuesdays will feature a chef special taco for #TacoTuesday, Fridays and Saturdays will include a club atmosphere (after 10 pm) with music from various local DJ’s and Sundays include a “Border Brunch.”

El Jefe Texican Cantina is located at 468 King Street. Hours, menus and more can be found at www.eljefechs.com.
