“Piccolo Spoleto at Nexton” Returns for Fourth Year
“Piccolo Spoleto at Nexton” returns for its fourth year on Saturday, June 2nd at Brown Family Park (2000 Front Street). This is the only Piccolo Spoleto event held in Summerville.
The concert kicks off at 5 pm, but the park will open at 3:30 pm. Attendees are invited to bring their blankets, chairs, and coolers to enjoy live music from two internationally acclaimed bands – Sammy Miller & The Congregations and Empire Strikes Brass.
Born on the streets of Asheville, N.C, Empire Strikes Brass will open up the show. This 10-person band stretches the boundaries of the stereotypical brass band paradigm, fusing sounds from around the globe. You will want to get up and dance with the music’s soul shaking synthesizer solos, lush vocal harmonies, powerful moving drums, thick nasty bass and guitar solos, hypnotically rhythmic keys and wall-to-wall horn power.
Second to the stage is the headliner,Sammy Miller and The Congregation. Grammy®-nominated drummer, singer and bandleader Sammy Miller and his ensemble performs music that feels good – a style of joyful jazz that entertains, enriches, but most of all uplifts. Independently, the band members have performed and recorded with notable artists including Wynton Marsalis, Lady Gaga and Queen Latifah at venues including the White House, Lincoln Center and the Hollywood Bowl. This performance is equally sublime as it is upbeat.
While you feed your soul with toe tapping music, you can also feed your belly with food from local food trucks including Damiano’s Pizza, Braised in the South, Semilla, Gelato Moto, Bottleneck Coffee Truck and Miracle’s Tasty Express. Accommodations are available at The Nexton Marriott Courtyard, adjacent to the park. Or, walk to Starbucks and Carolina Ale House for snacks or dinner after the show.
Before the concert, attendees are welcome sit back and relax at Brown Family Park or explore the Nexton community and it’s 10 miles of parks and trails, plus designer model homes in each of its three villages.
The event is free to the public but advanced registration is required. Tickets are available at https://www.nexton.com/piccolospoleto.
