Camp Happy Days’ Week Long Camp for Kids Kickin’ Cancer Filled with Life Changing Opportunities, Memories and Bonding

From July 1^st through July 7^th, over 270 children battling cancer and their siblings from South Carolina will attend Camp Happy Days’ annual camp at Camp Bob Cooper in Summerton, SC. Since 1982, Camp Happy Days has provided a year-round support system for children diagnosed with cancer and their families in South Carolina. While serving more than 550 children each year with 12 year-round programs- all while keeping the cost FREE for the families.

The entire week will be filled with new and exhilarating adventures that allow campers to escape their everyday worries of cancer for a week and purely just be a kid. Campers will spend the week partaking in water sports, pottery making, paintball, ropes courses, cooking and more. Special highlights of the week will include a 150 ft. tall water slide, 4th of July fireworks display over Lake Marion, a Pigtucky Derby and a special night for all, Prom.  Prom is one of the nights the camp has seen friends meet and some, even fall in love.

At the heart of all this fun and adventure is a very thoughtfully planned and intentionally crafted teambuilding program. Through group activities, trust exercises, bonding experiences, group challenges and daily activities, campers are able to build lasting friendships and memories that help them get through some of the tough times they experience outside of camp.

“We are truly excited to host this camp every summer and see the smiles on these precious faces. Our mission is to offer support and encouragement to children diagnosed with cancer and we do so with this fun opportunities for them to just be kids,” Cindy Hay Johnson, executive dDirector of Camp Happy Days, said. “To see the difference in each camper after the week is over, is what camp is all about.”

Over 230 full-time counselors and volunteers also attended camp to help provide delicious meals, lead activities and create an overall fun and nurturing environment for the campers. In addition, members of the MUSC medical staff volunteered their time to keep campers healthy and happy throughout the whole week.
