Trident United Way Awards $25,000 in Community Engagement Grants

Trident United Way extended Community Engagement Grant offers totaling $25,000 to seven area nonprofits whose missions align with the building blocks of a solid foundation: education, financial stability and health. These grants will support activities that will take place in the next 12 months, ranging from an open house for a school that serves children with disabilities to a volunteer recruitment event to build a community garden for senior residents.

“Our partnership with Trident United Way is very important to us because their staff is always responsive and looking for ways to help,” Youth Empowerment Services Executive Director Roslin J. Fields said. Her organization received funding for its Sixth Annual Dream Girls Conference that empowers young women of color. “TUW helps take that passion and put it on the practical track. The training I’ve received along with the grant has been very important to me. I love going to the meetings and trainings because I get to see like-minded people.”

Trident United Way’s Community Engagement Grants have awarded $125,000 in funds to 27 different organizations in five rounds of funding since 2016. Fourteen of these organizations received TUW funding for the first time since Trident United Way defined education, financial stability and health as our key areas of focus and implemented a new investment strategy in 2012.

“We are excited about the different outreach activities and events this grant funding will support,” Trident United Way Vice President of Community Impact Amanda Lawrence said. “The Community Engagement Grants are an important part of overall TUW investments to support community nonprofit organizations.”

Community Engagement Grants will not be issued in January 2019, but Trident United Way expects applications to resume in Spring 2019. Other funding opportunities are anticipated to begin in Fall 2018, so agencies are encouraged to check the website at tuw.org regularly.
