Leftovers: Tidbits from the Food & Bev Community (8/25/18)
I created the “Leftovers” series to ensure I could share as much food and bev news as possible, so here’s the latest:
- Repairs at Coast Bar and Grill have been completed. The main dining room reopened on Friday. In addition, foot traffic on Hutson Alley is back to normal for accessing the entrances to Michael’s on The Alley, The Victor Social Club, and Vincent Chicco’s.
– Drayton Hall Preservation Trust announced the opening of a café in Drayton Hall’s newly-opened Sally Reahard Visitor Center. Rudi’s Café at Drayton Hall features artisan coffee, handmade pastries, sandwiches, cheeses, and charcuterie alongside a range of wines and beers.
In addition, Rudi’s will also provide meal options for groups, meetings and events visiting Drayton Hall.
The café will serve visitors Monday through Saturday from 9 am to 4:30 pm and Sundays from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm.
- Ryan Shaw has been named executive chef of The Lot, the farm-to-table restaurant located at 1977 Maybank Highway alongside the Charleston Pour House. Shaw, age 38, comes to The Holy City from Boulder, Co., where he was working at The Greenbriar Inn alongside Chef Martin Woods, a James Beard nominee.
– - The Indigo Road Hospitality Group announced the promotion of Mark Keiser to executive chef of Oak Steakhouse. A longtime member of the Indigo Road family, Keiser has worked alongside Oak Steakhouse chef and partner Jeremiah Bacon for the past five years as chef de cuisine. In his new role, Keiser will continue to showcase his commitment to locally sourced ingredients and unique creativity at the helm of the nationally celebrated restaurant.
– Check out some photos (below) from last Wednesday’s Lowcountry Cuisine Showcase at Merchants Hall, Charleston’s newest venue in the heart of the Historic District. Charleston caterers Salthouse Catering, Duvall Catering & Events, Tristan Events & Catering served Lowcountry-themed cuisine, while Spike by Snyder offered local beers and an assortment of wines. Loluma styled the event. You can see many more photos here.
