Charleston Slow Fashion Event Raises Awareness about Ethical Fashion in the Southeast
Press Release
–
Local fashion brand Brooke Wilder Atelier presents Off Runway, an annual event that celebrates the Southeast’s slow and ethical fashion movement by featuring local and emerging designers. This year’s themed event, “Enchanted Masquerade,” will be held on November 2nd, from 6 pm to 11 pm at Founders Hall in Charles Towne Landing.
The event features several runway shows including a handful of emerging designers like Chinara Alston, Ariamna Squitieri, Jada Wages, and Sydni Anderson. The evening will also highlight an art performance by flourishing Charleston artist Kolpeace, a theatrical performance of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven,” music, a silent auction, and a local vendor showcase. A portion of the event’s proceeds and silent auction will be donated to local nonprofits Thrive SC and Redux Contemporary Art Center.
Off Runway was created by Gina Marie Roberts, owner and founder of Brooke Wilder Atelier, as a way to draw attention to slow fashion and local creatives while also giving back to Charleston nonprofits. Roberts says, “Off Runway is a means to use my brand as a vehicle to cultivate community, collaboration, creativity, and conversation. I wanted to create a platform for people to share their artistic expression and points of view. My goal is to inspire new conversations about how to live in a conscious way.”
Roberts, a seasoned designer, is also looking to inspire the next generation of local designers. Runway shows for the event will feature masquerade masks created by Ashley Hall students. In addition, Roberts is accepting submissions for the Young Adult Design Challenge, which encourages high school juniors and seniors in Charleston, Berkley, and Dorchester County schools and local college freshmen, sophomores, and juniors to submit an original look to be included in a runway show.
Tickets are limited and on sale now. Designers, vendors, and local business owners interested in getting involved or sponsoring the event can submit interest and questions to Gina Marie: offrunwayevents@gmail.com.
