The National Steeplechase Ends Season in Charleston Next Month
Horse racing in the south has a long storied tradition, much like the Holy City itself, and the Steeplechase of Charleston will return on Sunday, November 11th to carry on that tradition. The event will take place at the Race Track at Stono Ferry, 20 minutes outside of downtown Charleston.
The event, sanctioned by The National Steeplechase Association closes its season this year in Charleston with $100,000.00 in prize money and titles up for grabs. Tickets are on sale and can be purchased here. General Admission tickets are as low as $30 and tailgate ticket packages are available for $200. Tickets to the VIP Chalet, which includes open bar and lunch service, can be purchased for $175.
A portion of the event’s proceeds will go to benefit, The County Cradle to Career Collabortive, a nonprofit which seeks to improve education and job opportunities for all students throughout the Tri-county area.
Attendees don their finest attire and spend a day of revelry watching the races, while also enjoying other amusements. This year’s event includes live music, food trucks, a holiday market, and more.
The tradition of horse racing in the South goes back to the 1700s beginning in Charleston with Washington Race week, which featured a one-mile loop around today’s Hampton Park
