Basic Kitchen to Partner with Seaborn Oyster Co. for “The Red Balloon” Raw Bar
Basic Kitchen and Seaborn Oyster Co. are partnering to offer a weekly oyster night in Basic Kitchen’s garden courtyard. “The Red Balloon,” Seaborn’s pop-up raw bar, will be in residence at Basic Kitchen every Thursday night, offering fresh oysters from 5:30 pm to 8 pm.
In the mid-1800s, dark doorways leading to New York’s many oyster cellars were marked by the glow of a large, red balloon hung above and lit by a candle. The red balloon came to symbolize places of gathering and revelry where one could enjoy “oysters in every style,” as Charles Dickens observed during his American travels in 1842.
In the spirit of this tradition, Basic Kitchen is partnering with Seaborn Oyster Co., bringing “The Red Balloon” to their garden courtyard. The kick-off event is scheduled for Thursday, October 25th. Cyrus Buffum of Seaborn will be on hand shucking the Lowcountry’s freshest oysters for $3 a piece, accompanied by the new fall cocktail menu from Basic Kitchen.
Seaborn is a local company that farms oysters off Sullivan’s Island.
