The World AIDS Day Charleston Planning Committee has announced activities they are hosting to commemorate World AIDS Day, November 30th. The Charleston community is invited to come together to recognize what is happening locally and join forces to support HIV education and prevention here and around the state.

This year’s schedule includes the following events:

Thursday, November 29th – Project Condom

Project Condom is a design contest where fashion meets education. It provides an engaging, safe space where relationship communication is encouraged and the social stigma surrounding condom use is reduced. The Charleston Area World AIDS Day Committee, The Charleston Teen and Family EMPOWERR Program, and the College of Charleston Multicultural Student Program have partnered to host this event.

The teams will be composed of adolescents and young adults (12-25) within Charleston, Dorchester, and Berkeley counties, as well as local organizations.

This event is open to the public and a pre-show reception will be held at 5:30 pm. Local drag queen Melody Lucas will be the emcee and perform. Click here for more information.

Friday, November 30th – World AIDS Day Community Breakfast

The World AIDS Day Community Breakfast will be held from 8:30a m to 10 am at the Marriott Charleston on 170 Lockwood Blvd. This breakfast will bring together businesses, community leaders, medical professionals, and those who want to learn more about how HIV/AIDS is affecting our local community and how we can combat the issue.

The event is free and open to the public. RSVP to Kimberly.Balaguer@rsfh.com

Friday, November 30th – World AIDS Day Candlelight Vigil

The World AIDS Day Candlelight Vigil will be held from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Unitarian Church of Charleston (4 Archdale Street) with a reception at Gage Hall to follow.

This annual tradition mixes solemn remembrance for those who have passed and celebrates the life and achievements of those living and the advances in HIV prevention and education.  Special musical performances and local speakers will be part of the program. Click here for more info.
