Friends of McLeod Host 14th Annual Oyster Roast & Raffle on Sunday
On Sunday, December 2nd, The Friends of McLeod, a Charleston-based non-profit organization dedicated to preserving McLeod Plantation for future generations, will host the 14th annual Friends of McLeod Benefit Oyster Roast and Raffle from 4 pm to 8 pm at the McLeod Plantation pavilion (325 Country Club Drive on James Island).
The event includes:
- Oysters and barbeque served up by longtime Charleston caterer Jamie Westendorf
- Live music from Charleston band Wildflower Station
- Unique raffle prizes that will be called throughout the evening
- Opportunities to walk the grounds of McLeod Plantation
- Beer, wine, and other beverages will be available
All proceeds from the event will go directly to the Friends of McLeod, Inc. a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization. This past year, funds generated by events such as the oyster roast allowed the organization to plant the Loutrel Briggs Memorial Garden (right), a recreated garden behind the plantation house that mimics the original design done by famed landscape architect Loutrel Briggs.
Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the event on the day of.

Friends of McLeod, Inc. (the Friends of McLeod) is a registered 501(c)(3), tax-exempt, non-profit organization dedicated protecting the plantation as one of South Carolina’s most valuable archaeological sites. The organization is dedicated to preserving and protecting all aspects of McLeod Plantation, including its house, slave cabins, outbuildings, cemetery, oak allees, woods and character-defining fields.
Friends of McLeod, Inc. continues its mission to inform and educate the public on the plantation, its historical relevance, its military history and the it has in helping tell the story of African-Americans in the country, from slavery to the Civil War to freedom. Friends of McLeod, Inc. will inform and educate on the plantation’s agricultural history as a Sea Island plantation, and will work to protect its remaining rural vistas.
