CCPL and Government Officials Break Ground on New Bees Ferry West Ashley Library
Press Release
Construction of the new Bees Ferry West Ashley Library is underway. Charleston County Public Library (CCPL) and Charleston County Government officials kicked off the construction of the new facility during a groundbreaking ceremony on Dec. 4. The 20,000-square foot facility will be located off of Glenn McConnell Parkway near West Ashley High School.
The new library will include:
- A children’s area and storytime room
- Meeting rooms and an auditorium
- A makerspace for DIY (do it yourself) projects
- Outdoor seating
- Learning Lab (Computer Instruction Room)
- A family restroom and nursing room
“It’s an exciting time to be a CCPL patron,” said Acting Executive Director Darlene Jackson. “Facilities like this one will help engage our patrons and members of this community and further enhance our mission to support lifelong learning.”
Local residents approved a referendum to build five new libraries, and renovate or upgrade 13 others in November 2014. The first phase of the overall project was designed to solicit community input for the five new library locations. One of CCPL’s top priorities during this process involved obtaining practical information from public library users. The McMillan Pazdan Smith architectural firm presented their design of the new branch during a community meeting in July 2017.
