W International Announces Expansion of Manufacturing Operations to South Carolina
Press Release
W International, a family-owned, Michigan-based heavy metal fabrication company, announced today that it is opening a manufacturing facility in Berkeley County in early 2019. The facility, to be located in the Charleston International Manufacturing Center at Bushy Park, will be W International’s fourth manufacturing facility, but the company’s first outside of southeastern Michigan.
“We’re pleased to expand our footprint, and want to thank the people of Berkeley County and the state of South Carolina for helping us to make this facility a reality,” said Ed Walker, CEO, W International. “We look forward to supporting the needs of the U.S. Department of Defense from the Lowcountry region of South Carolina and more importantly, we’re looking forward to becoming a part of the local community.”
W International provides manufacturing, custom fabrication, project management, tooling, and engineering services to clients in the Aerospace, Defense, Automotive, Energy, and Commercial Business Industries. At its Berkeley County facility, W International will support US Defense shipbuilding, as well as the Aerospace, Automotive, and other Commercial Business industries.
Moving in to an existing 451,000 square foot facility, the company will begin hiring workers for the facility and producing product in the first quarter of 2019. The first hiring phase will bring 600 new jobs to the tri-county area with a second phase following shortly thereafter.
The majority of the positions that will need to be filled at the new facility will be welding roles (all levels of welding, including NAVSEA-certified welders), but openings will also be available for supervisors, quality & inspection managers, engineers, and administrative positions.
