William Means Real Estate Donates $10,000 to MUSC Children’s Health Pediatric Palliative Care Program

Press Release

William Means Real Estate is giving back in a big way this holiday season. One of Charleston’s oldest real estate companies is donating $10,000 to the Medical University of South Carolina Children’s Health pediatric palliative care program. The donation will fund research by Conrad Williams, M.D., a pediatrician dedicated to helping families and their children at the end of their lives.

The donation is a combination of contributions from William Means agents who donated a portion of their 2018 sales, as well as a company contribution. In January, agents and staff submitted organizations and charities to be considered for an end-of-year donation. The pediatric palliative care program at MUSC was selected in large part because of a December 2017 article in The Post and Courier that highlighted the program and Dr. Conrad Williams.

The article detailed his work helping parents and their children through a heartbreaking time. The article noted Conrad is “often the one who explains to parents what to expect when their children are taken off life support. … He answers questions parents don’t want to ask, the ones many doctors aren’t trained to handle. Then, Williams often sits with his patients and their parents, sometimes all day.”

Helen Geer, president and broker-in-charge at William Means Real Estate, said, “Our Lowcountry community gives so much to us and it is our company and agents’ belief that we should in turn give back to it. The MUSC Children’s palliative care program is extremely worthy of our recognition and support.”

Dr. Conrad Williams said, “We are incredibly grateful for this gift. Because of how health care payments work, a pediatric palliative care program often relies heavily on support from the community. This gift will go a long way in helping us to achieve our dream of making sure every child with a serious illness and their family is able to benefit from high-quality palliative care whether in their home, an intensive care unit at MUSC and everywhere else in between.”
