Charleston Parks Conservancy Hosts New Wintertime Culinary Experience

The Charleston Parks Conservancy will host a brand new culinary event, Shucked + Sauced, from 1 pm to 4 pm on Saturday, January 26th at the newly renovated Rose Pavilion in Hampton Park. This quintessential Lowcountry celebration will showcase the best of the land and sea along with live music, beer, and wine.

Shucked + Sauced is curated by Chef Mike Lata of The Ordinary and FIG. Featured restaurants are The Ordinary, Nico, 167 Raw, Chubby Fish, and The Obstinate Daughter. Local oyster farmers Lowcountry Oyster Co., Clammer Dave, Barrier Island Oyster Co., and Lady’s Island Oysters will prepare the oysters. Plus, Rodney Scott’s BBQ and Lewis Barbecue will serve smoked meats.

Guests will enjoy wine and beer from Holy City Brewing Co. and music from Dallas Baker and Friends.

“This event connects two of my favorite things: oysters and Charleston,” Chef Lata said. “Having been here for 20 years, I’ve seen many changes in Charleston. As the city has grown, development has put a lot of stress on the fishing community. Our local oyster farmers are helping to revitalize our working waterfront, just as the Parks Conservancy works to rejuvenate and preserve our city’s public green spaces.”

This inaugural event is organized by the Conservancy along with its volunteer Park Angels and Perennial members who are part of the organization’s charitable giving society.

All proceeds from this event support the Conservancy’s work renovating and beautifying public parks and green spaces around the City of Charleston. One of its latest projects is the Rose Pavilion at Hampton Park. The previously unused concession stand has been re-envisioned and refurbished through the collaborative efforts of the Charleston Parks Conservancy and the City of Charleston. Rose Pavilion will be a place for community gatherings and a central location for new park programs and community events.

Frampton Construction is completing the renovation work, and the Conservancy will plant the garden spaces around the pavilion.

“We can’t wait to showcase the Rose Pavilion at Shucked + Sauced,” Harry Lesesne, executive director of the Charleston Parks Conservancy, said. “This new space enhances the already beloved Hampton Park and gives residents another venue option for a family reunion, company party or culinary pop-up.”
