The Charleston Christmas Special Gets You in Holiday Mood
By Jeff Walker
What is the most wonderful time of the year in the Holy City? It’s when your family and friends are gathered together and sitting in the audience, enjoying the sights and sounds of the season at the Charleston Christmas Special. Just as Santa brings holiday joy to boys and girls of all ages, so do Brad and Jennifer Moranz as they host their annual salute to the Christmas season.
Nine of the most talented musicians in Charleston as well as a giant Christmas tree set the backdrop for eight talented vocalists, seven dancers, and two of the most welcoming hosts anywhere on the planet. If you have a scrooge or a Grinch in your party, than bring them to a performance of the Charleston Christmas Special and their hearts will automatically be warmed to the season.
The Moranzes have been presenting this annual show for over two decades at the Charleston Music Hall, and each and every year it never fails to amaze. Rock, pop, country, classical, and gospel music take center stage wrapped around familiar favorite and traditional hymns. Holiday songs inter-mingled with comedic sketches, dance numbers, and ventriloquism. Don’t worry, your favorite performers are back in the cast.
The Charleston Christmas Special has something for kids from six to 92. For seniors, the show brings back memories of those classic holiday specials you watched with the whole family gathered around the television in the 1960’s and 70’s. For baby boomers, it recalls the holiday albums your parents put on when you decorated the tree, and for younger audience members, it offers something new and exciting for the holidays.
As I have proclaimed for many years, the Charleston Christmas Special is a must see. It’s the one thing you put on your holiday to-do list at the beginning of each year if you truly want to get into the spirit of Christmas. Weekend performances run thru Dec 21st.
