Bucs Breeze by Piedmont International, 111-65
By: CSU Sports Media
Sparked by the return of Phlandrous Fleming Jr., Charleston Southern sprinted out to a 15-0 lead and never looked back in a 111-65 victory over Piedmont International on Sunday at the Buc Dome.
Fleming, a member of last year’s All-Big South Freshman Team, tallied team highs of 17 points and three steals in a production-packed 18 minutes. He scored eight of CSU’s (6-7) first 15 points in an opening blitz that gave the Bucs a 30-point lead by the 10:01 mark. CSU led by 31 at halftime and as many as 56 in the second half to dominate Piedmont International (4-8) from start to finish.
CSU head coach Barclay Radebaugh was pleased with his team’s thorough effort. The Bucs shot 52 percent and handed out 17 assists offensively, while holding the Bruins to 33 percent shooting and forcing 21 turnovers defensively.
“For about 25-28 minutes, we played really, really well,” Radebaugh said. “It was great to see our complete team for the first time this year. It was the first time we had our top-ten on the court together, and we got a glimpse of what we can be.”
“It’s amazing to have Phlan back,” Radebaugh continued. “You don’t realize what he brings until you don’t play with him. He makes a big difference and gives everybody confidence. We’re a work in progress but we’re really excited about what we can be.”
