“Three Tall Women” Set to Invade the Lowcountry

Press Release

Following a wildly successful run on Broadway this past summer, Edward Albee’s Pulitzer Prize winning, Three Tall Women, gets a local reboot.  Having obtained the professional rights, South of Broadway Theatre Productions is delighted to bring this shockingly funny, coruscating dissection of the human condition to greater Charleston.

Three Tall Women earned Albee a Pulitzer and three Best Play awards for 1994. It is a ‘masterwork’ of modern theater: As an imperious, acerbic, old woman lies dying, she is tended to by two other women, and visited by a young man. Albee’s unapologetic dialogue about everything from incontinence to infidelity…and beyond…leaves us breathless with disbelief, shock and hilarity.  While The Three Women are separate characters, Albee brilliantly depicts the evolutionary stages of a woman’s life (The Maiden, The Mother, and The Crone), wherein we experience The EveryWoman, who lays bare the truths of our lives — how we live, how we love, how we die, and if we overcome.

Founding Producing Artistic Director, Mary Gould directs this Lowcountry premiere of Three Tall Women.  Production will be designed by Daniel Velasco.

The role of “Woman A” will be played by Lowcountry newcomer Carolyn K. Graupner, who brings decades of bi coastal experience and a long list of credits from stage, screen, and TV. She will next be seen at Queen Street Playhouse during March as “Linda” in another Pulitzer Prize winning play – Death of A Salesman.

The role of “Woman B” will be played by Southeastern film/TV veteran and favorite  Langley Cornwell.

The role of “Woman C” will be performed by Cherie Kaufman, who recently co-starred in the Village Rep. Company’s production of Vanity Fair.  Following her South of Broadway Productions debut, Cherie joins the cast of Hair in March with What If? Productions.

All performances are at South of Broadway Theatre at 1080 E. Montague Ave. in Park Circle.

Tickets are available at www.SouthofBroadway.com or call: 843-745-0317.

Show runs: January 25, 26, February 1, 2 at 7:30 pm and January 27, February 3 at 3 pm.
