Fields to Families will host their Annual Fundraising Oyster Roast on Sunday, January 20th from 2 pm to 5 pm at Bowens Island. Proceeds from the event will support the mission of the local nonprofit that grows in their own garden, harvests in fields of local farmers, and collects produce at several farmers markets.

The nonprofit provides 30 local organizations with access to the produce, free of charge. These organizations include local soup kitchens, food banks, foster homes, senior homes, and low income neighborhoods. Fields to Families is helping prevent food waste, providing education, provide healthy options, and is supported by volunteers of all ages and experiences.

In 2018, Fields to Families distributed just under 90,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables valued at $184,000 to their partner organizations, free of charge.

“Our annual Oyster Roast is a guaranteed good time,” Sasha Coyle, Program Director of Fields to Families, said. “Bowens Island is a wonderful spot to enjoy the company of great people, great food, and great music.” said.

Attendees will enjoy local oysters, a variety of food prepared by Megan Hutchinson of SNOB, live music by Mark Jackson Music, and waterfront seating. Coolers are welcome as the event is BYOB. Tickets are available for $30 each and can be purchased online or at the door.
