MUSC’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Announces Spectrum of Sexual Assault Seminar

The Medical University of South Carolina’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences announced the Spectrum of Sexual Assault from the Victim to the Perpetrator Seminar, to span over two days with valuable information for Healthcare Professionals, Legal Experts and more.

“This seminar will provide a variety of information as well as Continuing Education Credits for anyone who comes in contact with victims or perpetrators of sexual assault in their practice,” said Jessica Carter, Manager of Operations in the Continuing Education Office at the Medical University of South Carolina’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

As research evolves, all healthcare and law enforcement professionals should continually evaluate their response to the diverse populations they serve. Violence perpetrated against communities has long been documented. Law enforcement is making huge strides to end violence perpetrated in communities of color. However, violence perpetrated against members of other communities is still under-reported and often overlooked by law enforcement. This workshop will address unique barriers to reporting and steps that can be taken to overcome those barriers. The presenters will also examine the significant impact of a timely response to victims has on the community and the importance of building positive relationships that encourage trust and respect.
