Point Hope United Methodist Church (UMC) announced that it will be accepting gas card donations through its “Gas Cards for Coasties” fundraising efforts to support local Coast Guard members who are currently being affected by the government shutdown.

In partnership with Master Sargent Chris Taylor, President of the Lowcountry Chief Petty Officer Association, the church is collecting gas cards valued at $25 or $50 until further notice.

Cards can be dropped off at the church Monday through Thursday between the hours of 9 am and 1 pm. Those dropped off before and after office hours can be left in the white birdhouse to the left of the church. Point Hope UMC is located at 3404 Turgot Lane in the Park West neighborhood of Mount Pleasant.

“After speaking with Master Sargent Chris Taylor, we have decided the greatest need is gas cards, so these amazing service men and women can get to work,” Pastor Elizabeth Sullivan of Point Hope UMC said. “We are asking our members and neighbors to share about what we are doing and hope that we can be a blessing to those in our community.”

Those interested in giving can drop off gas cards at the church or contact the church office by calling 843-971-6377 or e-mailing office@pointhopeumc.org.
