Mixed-Up Murderous Mayhem Takes the Stage in February at Threshold Repertory Theatre
Put a twist on your Valentine’s Day with a love-triangle murder/comedy on stage at Threshold Repertory Theatre. Murder at the Howard Johnson’s runs from February 8th to 23rd at the theatre on 84 1/2 Society St. in downtown Charleston.
Written by Ron Clark and Sam Bobrick, Murder at the Howard Johnson’s is a fast-paced suspense comedy about a love-triangle among a husband, Paul Miller, his wife, Arlene, and their dentist, Mitchell Lovell. They plan three different murders with three hilarious combinations on three different holidays: Christmas, July 4th and New Year’s Eve. All the murders are planned to take place at the Howard Johnson’s Motor Inn.
But there’s just one problem. They’re no good at murder. If fact, they’re awful. The show’s many twists and turns during this mixed-up mayhem will keep the audience in stitches all night.
“This is the fourth time I have directed this show, which should be a good indicator that I think it is a laugh riot,” said Don Brandenburg, Threshold’s artistic director.
Even though Brandenburg has directed the show previously, this is the first time he’s starring in the production. He plays the husband, Paul Miller. Joining him on stage are veteran Charleston actress Samantha Andrews (Arlene) and Norman Howard, making his Charleston debut as the dentist, Mitchell Lovell.
“Come ‘kill’ some time with us,” Brandenburg said. “You won’t be disappointed.”
Performances are 7 p.m. Feb. 8-9, Feb. 14-16, and Feb. 22-23 or attend a Sunday matinee at 3 p.m. Feb. 10 and Feb. 17. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for military/seniors and $15 for students. Purchase tickets at www.thresholdrep.org. Note that the show contains some mild adult language and sexual situations.
