Griffin McLarty (Buckner, Ky.) struck out eight and allowed only two hits in a complete-game effort, and Dupree Hart (Rock Hill, S.C.) and Chaz Davey (North Augusta, S.C.) each drove in two runs to lead the College of Charleston baseball team to an 8-1 win over North Carolina A&T on Friday evening at Patriots Point.

With the win, College of Charleston moves to 10-2 on the season after pushing across eight runs on 13 hits – including five for extra bases – while holding North Carolina A&T (5-4) to one run on two base knocks. The Cougars converted 7-of-19 (.368) opportunities with at least one runner on base, and were 2-for-4 with a runner on third and less than two outs.

Davey led the way with a 3-for-4 night, scoring twice and driving in two with his third home run of the season. Hart went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base, while Logan McRae (Florence, S.C.) collected three hits and plated one. Cross Holfert (Laurinburg, N.C.) delivered his first home run of the season – a solo shot – as Ari Sechopoulos (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Harrison Hawkins (Bishopville, S.C.) tallied three hits and scored once.

McLarty delivered his best start of the season on the mound, going the distance with eight strikeouts and no walks to earn his second win of the season. The junior right-hander allowed one unearned run on two hits, and retired 21 consecutive batters before surrendering a single to the leadoff batter in the ninth.

Camden Williamson and Ryne Stanley were the lone Aggies to reach base via a hit in the game, with Williamson scoring North Carolina A&T’s only run ona sacrifice fly from Jason King.

Tim Luth surrendered five runs – four earned – on nine hits over six and one-third innings to take the loss. Justin Fox, Peyton Winebarger, and Leon Davidson combined to allow three runs on four hits in one and two-thirds innings of relief.

The Cougars and Aggies will meet in game two of the series on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Patriots Point.
