College of Charleston freshman Drayton Siegling completed an outstanding two days at the Charleston Invitational with a five-hit shutout in an 8-0 win over Marist in the first of two games on Saturday at Patriots Point.

The Cougars then dropped a 2-0 decision to NC State as Wolfpack pitcher Sydney Nester tossed a no-hitter and struck out 15. Chandler Sparkman nearly matched her in the circle, allowing only one earned run and fanning a season-high nine.

Siegling did not walk a batter and struck out two while working six shutout frames for the third time this year. Including her relief stint against Bryant on Friday, the left hander from Hanahan High School tossed 11 shutout innings in the tournament to lower her ERA to 2.70.

Siegling was backed by an offense that tallied in four of the six frames. Charleston scored the only run it would need in the first on a single by Noel Dominguez, a pair of ground outs and an error. The Cougars made it 3-0 in the third when Lexee Emanuel’s double plated two runs.

Ginna Leaphart continued her hot hitting with a pinch-hit two-run double in the fourth, giving the freshman three two-baggers and five RBI in her last seven at bats. The Cougars ended the game early in the sixth with three more runs including a walk-off RBI single by Madi Brown.

Dominguez, Alondra Vicary and Yari Felix each scored two runs for Charleston.

NC State scored single runs in the first on a leadoff triple by Sam Russ and an error and the fourth on an RBI single by Brigette Nordberg.
