The Gibbes Museum of Art Presents the 2019 Spring Garden Concert Series

The Gibbes Museum of Art announced the spring lineup for their Garden Concert Series, which brings live music performances to the venue’s Lenhardt Garden. Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or a lawn chair and enjoy an outdoor performance under the setting sun.

Performances this spring include a jazz quintet and an all-female group paying homage to soulful singer Sam Cooke.

Students from the Allegro Charter School of Music will perform as guests arrive to each event. The Allegro School prepares students in grades 6-12 for the pursuit of creative work in any field, using music as a medium to inspire and foster creativity.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with other Charleston art institutions, the Charleston Music Hall and the Allegro School for this exciting annual event,” Angela Mack, The Gibbes Museum of Art’s executive director, said. “Music enhances the creative process and we hope that the Gibbes can be a place where visitors can enjoy and be inspired by many different art forms.”

Charlton Singleton Quintet, April 17th

The Charlton Singleton Quintet draws from the traditional style of Jazz but incorporates Mr. Singleton’s own compositions into a set that includes Jazz standards and popular tunes.

Women & Sam Cooke, May 8th

The “Women & series” is the brainchild of local musicians Lindsay Holler and Hazel Ketchum. This show will consist of a 90-minute set with a variety of vocalists paying homage to the late American singer, songwriter, and civil-rights activist Sam Cooke.

Shows run from 6:30 pm to 8 pm. Doors open at 5:30 pm with an opening performance by students from the Allegro Charter School of Music. Tickets can be purchased here.

Ticket price includes admission to the museum. There will be a cash bar on site and chairs are available for rent for a $5 additional charge.

All proceeds benefit the Gibbes Museum of Art.
