Cougars Down Iowa State, Lose to Cal State Fullerton

Lexee Emanuel and Madi Brown drove in two runs each, and the College of Charleston survived a scare in the seventh in a 4-3 win over Iowa State on the final day of the Easton Invitational.
The Cougars finished the day with a 7-1 loss to host Cal State Fullerton. Charleston (14-13) returns to Patriots Point next weekend to open its Colonial AthleticAssociation schedule against Hofstra.
The game against Iowa State was scoreless before Alondra Vicary and Yari Felix singled to lead off the third. Emanuel followed with a double to left to score bothruns and give her five RBI in a span of two at bats including a game-winning three-run homer against Harvard on Saturday.
Felix and Emanuel both had two hits, and Vicary scored two runs in the victory.
Drayton Siegling kept the Cyclones off the board until an RBI double by Sami Williams in the fifth ended the freshman’s stretch of 21.1 scoreless innings. Siegling went 4.2 innings and allowed five hits to pick up her fifth win without a loss.
Chandler Sparkman got the final out of the fifth and recorded a strikeout with two runners in scoring position in the sixth. Brown gave the Cougars a pair of importantinsurance tallies in the top of the seventh with a double that made it 4-1.
Iowa State scored two runs and had the bases loaded with no outs in the bottom of the seventh against reliever Izzy Berouty. Berouty was able to get a grounder tofirst that resulted in a double play including an out at the plate and followed with a strikeout to pick up her school-record ninth career save.
Charleston had opportunities to get on the board first against the Titans but left five runners on base over the first two innings. Cal State Fullerton took advantagewith four hits in both the second and third frames, scoring six times in the process.
Brown had her third RBI of the day in the fifth to avoid the shutout. Noel Dominguez had three hits against the Titans, and Siegling and Sparkman combined to allowonly one run in four innings in relief. Sophie Frost struck out nine in six innings for Cal State Fullerton.
