The Lonon Foundation Teams with Local Tennis Tournament to Support Children and Families of Cancer Victims
The Lonon Foundation, a Charleston nonprofit that provides resources to children affected by their parent or caregiver’s cancer, been chosen as a beneficiary of the 9th Annual Haygood/Grady Memorial Tennis Championship for the second year in a row.
Each year, the Haygood/Grady Memorial Tennis Championship brings together members of the community for a dinner, auction, and tennis tournament to raise funds for local organizations that provide resources and support for cancer patients and their families. This year’s tournament will be held May 3rd to 5th at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort. The dinner and auction will take place on Saturday, May 4th.
The Lonon Foundation was selected as a beneficiary to honor and celebrate the life of Michelle Nemeth, who had ties to Kiawah Island’s tennis community, the Haygood/Grady tournament, and The Lonon Foundation.
Nemeth was involved with the Lonon Foundation through their UPLIFT program, which is a free monthly program designed for children ages 6-17 who have been affected by their parent or caregiver’s cancer. Throughout the year, the UPLIFT program meets at various Lowcountry, kid-friendly venues to engage in fun and healthy activities with a community of people dedicated to helping them grow and heal.
“We are so honored to be part of this event again this year,” Anna Lonon, founder and president of The Lonon Foundation, said. “The proceeds from last year enabled us to provide services to more than 20 families in the Lowcountry.”
The Championship raised $70,000 in 2018, donating more than $15,000 to The Lonon Foundation, which they used to start a continuing education series taught by trauma-focused expert, Dr. Libby Ralston, fund their monthly programs, and reach more families in the community.
The Lonon Founation invites supporters and community members to join them at this year’s Haygood/Grady events. For tickets to the dinner, to become a sponsor, or to donate items to the auction, contact: jonathan_barth@kiawahresort.com, 843.768.2838, or 843.568.1468.
