Kristine’s Joy for Kids Recognizes Local Hero Family
Kristine’s Joy for Kids Founding Hope, a local program of the American Childhood Cancer Organization (ACCO) recently recognized the Sligh family as Go Gold Ribbon Parents Heroes. Justin and Marisa Sligh’s three-year-old son Milo has been receiving treatment from MUSC Children’s Hospital since November 2017.
“Marisa and Justin really are heroes,” Kristine Shaffer, Volunteer Director of Kristine’s Joy for Kids Founding Hope, said. “Marisa is so good at supporting everyone around her and sharing their story to bring awareness to childhood cancer. We are thrilled to be able to recognize them as a Go
Gold Ribbon Parents Heroes family. Their courage, love, faithfulness and support for kids with cancer deserves recognition.”
Marisa is pursuing a degree in nursing while Justin serves in the USAF reserves and works full-time. Kristine’s Joy for Kids Founding Hope, along with their church and other local charities have provided support to the Sligh family while dealing with Milo’s illness.
Milo was recently named the Little Man of the Year for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of the Lowcountry.
