Support People Against Rape at their 2nd Annual Performing Arts Gala
Local nonprofit People Against Rape will presents its 2nd Annual Performing Arts Gala at The Schoolhouse on Thursday, April 18th at 6 pm. The event will raise funds to assist PAR in helping sexual assault victims and survivors.
There will be performances from local artists, a silent auction, a raffle, heavy hors d’oeuvres, wine (21 years and older), and more. Tickets can be purchased online here or at the door.
Chaquis Maliq will headline the live performances. Fleeing from a terrifying domestic violence and sexual abuse situation, only to end up in South Carolina, a state that seems to stay in the top 10 of violence and death against women by the hands of men, Maliq has discovered a path to healing. People Against Rape has been a tool in the “EccentroSoul 1 Woman Band’s” road to restoration through art introductions, which led to Maliq’s first poetic speech of reflection and musical performance with My Sister’s House’s Walk A Mile in Her Shoes and a second with the Ada’s Daughter Society Luncheon, followed by a musical performance with Marion’s House, an organization that focuses on young children and adolescent sexual trauma.
People Against Rape is an advocacy organization that provides comprehensive support and services for adult survivors of sexual violence in Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester Counties. Staff and trained crisis advocates support survivors through a 24-hour crisis hotline and hospital accompaniment. All services are free, confidential, and include: support groups, legal and law enforcement support, clinical counselor, follow up services, prevention, and education in local schools. You can learn more about the organization on their website.
