By: CSU Sports Media
UNC Asheville used a pair of timely two-run homeruns while keeping Charleston Southern off the board in RBI chances to salvage a game in the series 11-4 Saturday in Big South baseball action.
Junior shortstop Javon Martin collected his third home run over the past eight days and senior catcher Jack DeLongchamps had a two-hit afternoon, but UNC Asheville’s (13-25, 8-10 Big South) timely longballs cut the Buccaneer (16-27, 6-12Big South) momentum.
Jake Madole got UNC Asheville on the board first with a two-run shot to left and 2-0 lead, then added another in the second for a 3-0 margin before Martin’s two-run big fly to left. That was as close as the Bucs would get though, as theBulldogs used another two-run homer from Brandon Lankford to make it 6-2 at the time then added four in the seventh.
Ryan Stoudemire also went yard in the loss igniting a ninth-inning two-out rally, his team-leading ninth of the season becoming the first Buccaneer with 30-plus RBI’s.
CSU’s doubleheader sweep Thursday secured the series win and made it back-to-back such weekends with a series victory.
