The Gibbes Museum of Art is calling on local Charleston artists to apply for a chance to collaborate with the museum. The Gibbes is inviting local artists to apply in the fall for their existing Visiting Artist program and for a new opportunity to have their work featured in the museum’s store.

“The Gibbes is a one-stop-shop for quintessential Charleston art, culture, history and shopping, so what better way to honor this mission than by collaborating with more local artists,” Angela Mack, the Gibbes Museum of Art’s executive director, said. “Our Visiting Artist program provides a new environment for artists to create and we hope many local artists will apply for both special opportunities.”

The Visiting Artist program provides 6-8 contemporary artists annually an open space to create art and engage with visitors of the museum. Invitations are extended to emerging and nationally recognized artists whose work aligns with the Museum’s Collection Profile, who currently reside in South Carolina, whose work is in the Collection or who have been identified as a finalist or winner of the 1858 Prize for Contemporary Southern Art.

The Museum Store has something for visitors of all ages including jewelry, gifts, art supplies, books and specialty items. The Gibbes is planning to make renovations to the store in the future and will use this opportunity to create a space where local artists can showcase and sell their work in addition to the current offerings in the store.

To kick off this exciting campaign, the Gibbes is hosting “Connect, Collab, Collect: Artistic Enterprises at the Gibbes Museum.” See information below:

  • When: April 25th; 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
