Early Damage Lifts Tribe Over Cougars, 5-1

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary scored three runs in the second and added two in the fourth in a 5-1 series-opening win over College of Charleston on Friday evening at Plumeri Park.

William & Mary (26-19, 8-11 CAA) pushed across five runs on eight hits, and held College of Charleston (28-17, 10-7 CAA) to one run on five base knocks to jump from ninth to fifth in the Colonial Athletic Association standings.

Danny Wondrack (Wall, N.J.) drove in Dupree Hart (Rock Hill, S.C.) with a single to right in the sixth to account for the Cougars’ lone run. Chaz Davey(North Augusta, S.C.) added two singles in a 2-for-4 effort, as Hart collected his CAA-leading 34th stolen base of the season.

Kris Kuhn (Summerville, S.C.) tossed four strong innings in relief of Griffin McLarty (Buckner, Ky.), who allowed five runs on five hits and struck out four over four frames. Kuhn worked out of several jams in four scoreless innings while striking out four and walking two.

Brandon Raquet reached three times and drove in three with an RBI single and a two-run homer. Kyle Wrighte plated two with a double to center in the second. Wade Strain surrendered one run on four hits in seven innings to earn the win, as Randal Prosperi fanned three in two scoreless frames.

The Cougars and Tribe will meet in game two of the weekend series on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
