Beat Kid Hunger on May 19th with a Dance Party and Fundraiser

On Sunday, May 19th, I Heart Hungry Kids will host a party and fundraiser called “Beat Kid Hunger” to support its youth-led programs that address kid hunger in the Tri-County area.

“When a family is dealing with food insecurity, kids can’t do much to change their situation so it is up to other kids to help them,” Jackson Silverman, age 14, one of the founders of I Heart Hungry Kids, said. “Kids can create real change in their communities when we work together.”

Since 2013, over 5,000 youth volunteers have packed 300,000 meals for Lowcountry kids in need at monthly I Heart Hungry Kids packing parties. “Beat Kid Hunger” proceeds will support the organization’s outreach and advocacy programs.

“Our packing parties are all about working hard and having small people make a big difference,” Gabe Silverman, age 12, another founder, said. “For this fundraiser, I think it is awesome that we are still working hard to beat kid hunger while having fun.”

“Beat Kid Hunger” will be held from 5 pm to 7 pm on Sunday, May 19th at The Schoolhouse located at 720 Magnolia Road in West Ashley.  Adult tickets are free, kid tickets are $15, and both are available online.

The ticket includes snacks from by Moe’s Crosstown Tavern, lighting and sound provided by Carolina DJ Professionals, crafts, games, a photo booth, kid vs. parent dance contest, and information on other ways kids can make a difference with hunger in the community. Limited edition t-shirts will be for sale at the event. Non-perishable food donations are also requested.

“Kids don’t always realize how much they can do to change their world,” Riley Silverman, age 12, the third brother co-founder, said. “Just by going to this event, they are helping to feed kids and can learn about even more ways to help over the summer to keep the good work going!”

I Heart Hungry Kids is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that empowers kids to fight kid hunger through hands-on service and advocacy. Founded in 2013 by Jackson Silverman (then age 7) and his twin brothers Gabe and Riley (then age 5), I Heart Hungry Kids is a national award-winning nonprofit that has led over 5,000 youth volunteers in the packing of 300,000 meals for kids in need.
