Cunningham Votes to Pass Bipartisan Legislation Protecting People with Pre-Existing Conditions
Rep. Joe Cunningham on Thursday voted to pass H.R. 986, the Protecting People with Pre-Existing Conditions Act of 2019, bipartisan legislation designed to strengthen protections for people with pre-existing conditions.
“There are over 300,000 people in the Lowcountry living with a pre-existing condition, including asthma, cancer, and diabetes,” Rep. Cunningham said. “Hardworking Lowcountry families deserve access to quality, affordable care and they shouldn’t be penalized, charged more, or bankrupted for having a pre-existing condition. We cannot go back to the days when insurance companies could outright deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions. I am proud to protect South Carolinians’ access to coverage, and I will continue to work with Democrats and Republicans to lower the out of pocket cost of health care and prescription drugs for my constituents.”
Cunningham also voted to pass two bipartisan bills, H.R 1503 and H.R. 1520, to reduce the price of prescription drugs by removing barriers to more affordable generic versions of brand-name drugs coming to market.
