Blue Hose take finale, series Saturday

Presbyterian used a big second inning to jump ahead on their way to a 15-6 victory over Charleston Southern Saturday in Big South action and the regular season finale from CSU Ballpark.

Eight Charleston Southern (21-34, 11-16 Big South) played their final contest at CSU Ballpark – Jason Miller, Jamison Mobbs, Josh Peters, Josh Litchfield, Cody Maw, Jack DeLongchamps, Eddie Hiott and Tyler Weekley.

The Big South’s Freshman of the Week Max Ryerson hit his second home run of the weekend giving CSU a 2-0 lead through one inning, but a six-run second ignited the Presbyterian (28-26, 16-11 Big South) offense as they scored multiple runsin three innings Saturday.

Weekley began the 2019 season on the mound for the Buccaneers then got the nod Saturday in his final home game tossing 1.1 innings striking out a batter and allowing four runs, three earned. He was relieved by fellow senior Jamison Mobbs,who tossed a game-high 2.1 innings striking out a batter and allowing three runs, two earned before Eddie Hiott tossed 2.0 innings allowing two runs while striking out a pair.

Jason Miller broke the single season walk record with his pair of free passes Saturday and stands alone with 38 in 2019 capping his career-best season in on-base percentage. Josh Litchfield collected two hits and drove in a run, Josh Peters scored a run and Jack DeLongchamps smacked his first career home run in his final at-bat, a two-run blast to left center.

Charleston Southern will be the No. 7 seed in the Big South Championships beginning Tuesday in Fayetteville, N.C. at the brand new Segra Stadium – home of the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, the Class-A affiliate of the Houston Astros. The Bucswill take on the No. 8 seed USC Upstate in a single-elimination game Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN3 with the winner advancing to the double-elimination portion of the tournament Wednesday.
