Timrod Library to Host Mary Alice Monroe

Published

on

The Timrod Library in Summerville will host a return visit for New York Times best-selling novelist Mary Alice Monroe at its Summer Authors Event on Sunday, June 30th.

A highly celebrated champion of conservation causes, Monroe is a skilled storyteller who blends the natural world with the emotional world to produce tender, life-affirming novels. Her newest book, The Summer Guests, begins with a drama familiar to all Lowcountry residents: the anxiety and challenge of fleeing an oncoming hurricane. Once outside the path of the storm, a group of eclectic strangers must face the unresolved issues they have with each other and with themselves.  The Summer Guests is a heartwarming story of self-discovery, love and redemption, and bears out Pat Conroy’s praise for Monroe’s novels, that “every book she has written has felt like a homecoming.”

Monroe’s presentation begins at 2 pm at the Bethany United Methodist Church fellowship hall (118 W. 3rd Street) in Summerville. A meet-the-author Lowcountry Wine reception will follow at the Timrod Library (217 Central Ave).

Tickets for Timrod members are $20, non-members $25. To reserve a seat, visit the library or call (843) 871-4600. More information is also available on the Timrod’s Facebook page.
