Lowcountry Rapid Transit Community Open House Meetings Set for June 20th & 25th

The Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments (BCDCOG) will hold a pair of interactive, public community workshops to kick off the next phase of the Lowcountry Rapid Transit project, and provide an opportunity for the public to comment on initial design and routing concepts.

Each meeting will be held in an open-house format and attendees are encouraged to drop in any time. A formal presentation will not be given. The open house meeting will take place at the dates, times and locations below:

Meeting 1:

  • Date: Thursday, June 20
  • Time: 11 am – 2 pm
  • Location: Northwoods Mall (Near JC Penney Court), 2150 Northwoods Boulevard, North Charleston, 29406

Meeting 2:

  • Date: Tuesday, June 25
  • Time: 3:30 – 6:30 p.m.
  • Location: International Longshoremen’s Association, 1142 Morrison Drive, Charleston, 29403


Can’t make it in person?

An online version of the meetings will be available through July 25 and provides the same information and opportunities to participate as the open house meetings. The online meeting can be accessed by visiting lowcountryrapidtransit.com 24 hours a day, seven days a week and includes videos, maps, opportunities to comment and more.

The public will have 30 days after the public input meetings to submit comments on the draft purpose and need and route alternatives. Comments are due July 25. There are a variety of ways to submit comments, including via the online meeting at lowcountryrapidtransit.com, by email to info@lowcountryrapidtransit.com, via the project hotline at 843-303-9698, or by mail to:

The proposed 26-mile Lowcountry Rapid Transit project along Highway 52 (Rivers Avenue) and Highway 78 would provide improved mobility among key regional corridors and a more direct connection for the traveling public.
