South Carolina Aquarium’s Shark Week Begins on July 27th
The South Carolina Aquarium invites visitors to experience the weird, wild, and wonderful world of sharks during its annual Shark Week from July 27th to August 4th.
Aligning with Discovery Channel’s “Shark Week,” the aquarium will celebrate the wonderful side of the ocean’s most misunderstood creature: the shark. Ongoing shark activities include special dive shows and programs as well as photo opportunities all centered on sharks.
Aquarium divers will introduce visitors to all of the sharks that call the Great Ocean Tank home during daily dive shows. Scavenger hunts, talks with shark experts, and video of a shark feeding are just some of the many activities planned and included with admission.
“Sharks may seem scary on television, but shark attacks are very rare,” South Carolina Aquarium Education Interpreter Ashley Zalabak said. “In fact, half of all sharks are actually less than three feet long! You can even touch the smallest species of shark that is found off the coast of South Carolina when you visit the Aquarium during Shark Week.”
New to Shark Week this year is Shark Week Trivia, happening on Monday, July 29th from 7 pm to 8:30 pm for the 21-and-older crowd. Attendees can enjoy pizza, beer, and sink their teeth into some shark trivia with friends and shark enthusiasts alike.
Shark Week activities during normal aquarium hours are free for members and included in the price of admission. The Aquarium is also offering $10 off an annual membership pass during Shark Week by using the code shark19.
