Charleston County Hosting “Stuff the Ambulance” School Supplies Drive
On Wednesday, August 14th, Charleston County will host a school supplies drive from 10 am until 2 pm at the Charleston County Public Services Building at 4045 Bridgeview Drive. Staff will be stocking an ambulance with school supplies for kids in need this upcoming school year.
All collected items will be distributed at the City of Charleston First Day Festival on August 18th.
The First Day Festival is a celebration of education and provides children and families with information on educational services in the community, as well as a fun day together. The festival will be held at Liberty Square at the South Carolina Aquarium and Gadsdenboro Park from 1 pm to 4 pm. The South Carolina Aquarium is offering free admission from 1 pm to 5 pm and $1 parking at the Aquarium and Gaillard Center Parking Garages.
This is the 10-year anniversary of the Charleston County school supplies drive, and every year it continues to grow. Charleston County employee Malinda Terry organizes the school supply drive within Charleston County each year.
“This supply drive that started as simple packing of just one car has turned into a major event where we are filling an entire ambulance,” Terry said.
Last year an estimated 4,000 bags of school supplies were handed out to students from all over the area.
