Ponysaurus Brewing Co. Celebrates Distribution Expansion to South Carolina

Ponysaurus Brewing Co. is officially distributing beer to South Carolina beginning August 30th through Advintage Distributing. The Durham based brewery will be celebrating its expansion from North Carolina with a series of events from September 12th to September 15th.

The festivities begin in Greenville September 12th with a Ponysaurus tap takeover at The Community Tap, a craft beer and wine bar, from 5 pm to 8 pm. The celebration then continues in Charleston with a series of events revolving around beer and food throughout the weekend.

The brewery’s Charleston launch weekend kicks off with “An Evening at The Bar at Husk: Ponysaurus Brewing Co. Tap Takeover,” hosted at The Bar at Husk on September 13th from 5 pm to 8 pm. The restaurant is providing snack pairings to pair with the brewery’s beer selections, and Ponysaurus Brewing Co. ownership, production, and sales members will be available to talk about the flavor profiles and production of the beer.

On September 14th the Ponysaurus team has another tap showcase at Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint on James Island from 11 am to 2 pm, celebrating the brewery’s flagship beers that include their Biere de Garde, Don’t Be Mean to People: A Golden Saison, IPA, Scottish Ale and Export Stout. Cans will also be available for sale for guests to enjoy the beer at home.

Later in the day, the festivities proceed to The Royal American where the brewery is hosting a “Don’t Be Mean to People” show in celebration of Charleston Pride Week. Don’t Be Mean to People, a Golden Rule Saison, was created in 2016 when North Carolina representatives signed House Bill 2 (HB2) into law requiring transgender people to use restrooms that corresponded to their sex at birth. Ponysaurus Brewing Co. believed the bill “violates Golden Rule #000001,” and teamed up with 40+ North Carolinian brewers to create the beer. Each beer sold fundraises for Equality NC and Queer Oriented Radical Days of Summer (QORDS), and over $60,000 has been raised for these organizations.

The conclusion of the launch weekend ends at Leon’s Oyster Shed, which is hosting a private party featuring James Beard Award winning chef Jason Stanhope of FIG and Joe Kwon of The Avett Brothers, who are roasting oysters for guests. Ponysaurus Brewing Co. is featuring a special batch of the Oyster Saison, among other beers, which was specifically brewed for the event with oyster shells from Leon’s Oyster Shop.
