You Can Help Meals on Wheels of Summerville Win a $25,000 Grant
Meals on Wheels of Summerville has advanced to the final voting round in State Farm’s annual Neighborhood Assistance project and could win a $25,000 grant. For the final selection round, 200 communities throughout the country are asked to have supporters vote up to 10 times a day for their favorite project.
Forty projects will be selected for funding by popular vote. Meals on Wheels of Summerville says they will utilize the grant funding to provide over 8,400 meals to seniors and disabled in the Summerville area.
Voting is open until 11:59 pm on Friday, August 23d. Each person can vote up to ten times a day at https://www.neighborhoodassist.com/entry/2023891.
In 1981 several members of the Summerville community decided that they could improve the lives of our most vulnerable citizens by offering a meal program delivered each day. It has been proven over and again that proper nutrition is essential to disease prevention and overall good health. The mission evolved to deliver home bound residents a nutritious, noon-time meal. Over 30 years later, the outreach has grown to serve over 950 meals per week.
Meals on Wheels of Summerville receives no government funding and relies exclusively on the community for financial support. It takes over 200 volunteers each week to keep the wheels rolling. There are 16 routes with anywhere from 10-15 recipients on each route.
