Several local media outlets are reporting that the owner of the Recovery Room, Chris “Boston” DiMattia, has purchased the space currently inhabited by King Street Bait and Tackle, and will turn it into a themed karaoke bar called Bangkok Lounge. The second floor space was formerly the home of the Upper Deck Tavern, a beloved dive bar that closed in February 2018.

King Street Bait and Tackle was owned by Brian Wolter, who runs Gilroy’s Pizza, the restaurant on the first floor of the property.

DiMattia told both Eater Charleston and the Charleston City Paper that Bangkok Lounge will be a “seven-nights-a-week karaoke bar with different themes each night.” The venue will also have four frozen drink machines, a menu highlighted by hot dogs, a signature punch on tap, drag performers serving as MCs, and a space for private karaoke parties.

Bangkok Lounge is expected to open at 353 King St. in October.

The Post & Courier also has a detailed story on the new bar.
