Mitchell Hill Celebrates A Decade with the Revival of Charleston’s Design District

This fall, Mitchell Hill celebrates ten years of business with the grand-opening of Charleston’s first-ever design center.

Located in an art-deco building on Upper King Street (long known as Chase Furniture), Mitchell Hill revives a 12-thousand sq. foot space that will serve as a multi-line showroom while continuing to act as an art gallery. In efforts to bring back a design community to upper King Street – where showrooms like Waterworks, SieMatic, and Morris Sokol have all closed their doors – Mitchell Hill aims to serve as a resource for both design connoisseurs and to-the-trade industry professionals.

The two level space will reflect their design taste that they call “twisted traditional,” a style the brand is known for. The first floor will carry the latest in furnishings, paint, flooring, hardware, surfaces, and original works of art.

New Vendors:

Farrow & Ball, CB2 Paint, Materials Marketing, Cosentino, Artitalia Flooring, and a rug gallery. In tandem with the opening, Mitchell Hill will also unveil a curated selection of art by contemporary artists, and collaborative works.

New Design Services:

Walk-ins will be able to receive full design services by one of the team of six designers with a new service called, “DESIGNER ON CALL”. Aiming to be a resource for the Lowcountry design community, Mitchell Hill will continue to offer discounts to-the-trade.

“We’ve seen Charleston grow into a design hub, and with the influx of interior designers, furniture makers, and design aficionados, we saw a hole in the market,” Michael Mitchell said. “The same way many of the designer gravitate towards High Point Market, Atlanta, and New York, we want to be seen as a design resource in your backyard.”

Doubling as an event space, the design duo, Michael Mitchell & Tyler Hill, known for their sense of occasion, will be hosting events with local design and media partners to continue the comradery found in the design and art industry in Charleston. By virtue of hosting a series of monthly events, Mitchell Hill will continue to support their favorite vendors and artists by hosting art openings for both emerging and established artists as well as pop-ups for new vendors to display their latest work during festive times.
