Local Art Photographer to Host “Growth Begins with the HeART”

Charleston fine arts photographer Jessica Yurinko invites the community to join her for a special exhibit, reception, and fundraiser at South Carolina Society Hall on September 22nd.

THE EXHIBIT

The exhibit, “Charleston: a feeling not a place” offers a fresh and vivid perspective on the Lowcountry. According to the artist, the idea for the collection came from the challenge of trying to capture the feelings that so many of us share about our town.

“Anyone can take photos of what a place looks like, but I wanted to explore the feeling in addition to the physical structure of a place,” Yurinko said. “I know it’s a beautiful place, but people come here for more reasons than the pretty scenery. If I had to put it into words Charleston is: welcoming, warm, hospitable, beautiful, happy, relaxing, creative, neighborly, delicious, and very, very homey. But I feel like these words and a snapshot still are not enough. They don’t compare to actually being here and my hope is that these more dramatic photos in this series take you a step closer to that Charleston feeling many of us have come to know and love.”

THE CAUSE

Fresh Future Farm is a nonprofit farm and market providing healthy food, education, jobs and micro-entrepreneurial opportunities in a North Charleston food desert. The Charleston community recently rallied to successfully fund Fresh Future Farm’s campaign to buy their land. But the farm didn’t quite raise enough to convert the farm to solar-power, so the artist is donating 10% of art sales to Fresh Future Farm.

TICKETS

Tickets are FREE, however, there is a suggested donation of $10 or more, which will also go to support Fresh Future Farm. Click here for more information.
