Dorchester County’s Hurricane Dorian Update for 9/5/19

All Dorchester County Offices and Courts, Dorchester School District Two and Four Schools, the Dorchester County Career & Technology Center and the Dorchester County Library will remain closed on Friday, September 5 as crews work to remove debris on roadways, restore power and commence damage assessments. A decision regarding closures on Monday, September 9 will be made at a later date.

In order to reopen County offices, all offices and courts must have restored power, all major roadways cleared and no significant damage to County building.

Dorchester County will move to Operating Condition (OPCON) 2 at 8:00 AM on Friday, September 6 as crews work to remove debris on roadways, restore power and commence damage assessments.

All Dorchester County Convenience Sites will be open from noon to 6:00 PM on Friday, September 6.

Dorchester County asks residents and business owners to complete the online reporting form to report residential and commercial structure damage as a result of Hurricane Dorian. The form is available at www.DorchesterCountySC.gov/Dorian. A residential structure is defined as living quarters, occupied outbuildings and/or attached garages.

Currently there are 39 shelterees and 6 pets at the shelter at DuBose Middle School. The shelter is scheduled to close on Friday, September 6.

Road Closures

Highway 178, Highway 27, Highway 15, Central Avenue, Orangeburg Road, Dorchester Road and 17-A have been cleared.

Highway 78 has been cleared with the exception of the block between N. Pine St. and Laurel St. in Summerville which is currently closed due to a downed tree with powerlines.

Highway 61 has been cleared from the Colleton County line to Highway 165. Utilities are removing/replacing powerlines on Highway 61 between Highway 165 through the plantation district to the Charleston County line. When the powerlines have been removed, crews will begin debris removal on that portion of Highway 61.

Dorchester County Public Works have reopened over 20 roads and will continue to address debris in the roadways until 8:00 PM tonight, Thursday, September 5 and will reconvene at 7:00 AM on Friday, September 6.

Old Trolley Road is closed between Midland Parkway and Springview Lane due to down powerlines. All roads in the Town of Summerville have been cleared, with the exception of downed trees with powerlines. Once the utilities address the powerlines, the trees can be removed.

Due to wind gusts, additional trees may fall into the roadways overnight. Residents are asked to report road closures to the Citizens Call Center at (843) 832-0393 or (843) 563-0393.

Power Outages

Power Outages should be reported directly to the utility provider. Residents should not call 9-1-1, the Citizens Call Center or the Emergency Operations Center to report power outages.
