Charleston Gaillard Center Names Dance.Laugh.Learn as Early-Childhood 2019-2020 Artist-in-Residence
Press Release
The Charleston Gaillard Center’s Education Program is honored to present Dance.Laugh.Learn (DLL) as our early-childhood 2019-2020 Artist-in-Residence. DLL offers two early-childhood workshop lessons for physical education integration. All workshops will focus on working collaboratively with their peers, learning dance vocabulary, connecting choreography, and using their individual creativity and problem-solving skills.
(OPTION 1) A Sky Full of Stars: An interactive approach to learning about weight and flow, interpretive movement, and musicality through hip-hop movement.
CD and K will use a space-based, narrative groove story to teach movement and encourage imagination and creativity. Grades 1 & 2 will use more traditional modes of teaching movement and choreography with the theme of space. More specific hip-hop movement will be taught (top rock, 6-step, isolations, etc.).
(OPTION 2) Soccer Stars: A combination of sports-based creative movement and dance.
This workshop will work on stamina, agility, and connecting the mind with body movements. CD and K will use a soccer-based, narrative groove story to teach movement and encourage imagination and creativity as well as a dance-based obstacle course. Grades 1 & 2 will use more traditional modes of teaching movement and choreography with the theme of sports. More specific hip-hop movement will be taught (top rock, 6-step, isolations, etc.) as well as a dance-based obstacle course.
