Press Release

Kate and Ben Towill of Charleston-based design and hospitality firm, Basic Projects, recently announced their plans for opening The Post House, a historic restaurant and inn at 101 Pitt Street in the Old Village neighborhood of Mt. Pleasant. This is the second commercial property in Charleston for Basic Projects, who opened Basic Kitchen at 82 Wentworth in 2017.

The Post House is a neighborhood landmark that was built in the late 1800s as a private residence and retail store. The existing space, which previously housed The Old Village Post House (which closed in February), features a downstairs restaurant and upstairs boutique inn, and is now undergoing an extensive renovation led by Basic Projects. Inspired by travels to laid-back, seaside inns around the world, the design team is eager to present their contemporary take on this true Southern inn with a storied history.

The restaurant will be casual, lively, and family-friendly open for dinner, weekend brunch, and special occasions. Basic Projects has reimagined the first-floor restaurant, moving the bar to the front of the space, followed by the main dining room and outdoor courtyard. The restaurant also features a dedicated private events space ideal for larger parties and special occasions. The Post House will serve simple, seasonal food, classic cocktails and a varied, approachable wine list. Influenced by the region, the menu will feature bright, unfussy dishes that highlight local ingredients.

The inn at The Post House features seven cozy and comfortable rooms, a relaxing home away from home for staycationers and travelers alike. The rooms will be outfitted in stylish and functional antiques, serene bedding, and playful fabrics and fixtures. Just a block from the waterfront, the inn is ideal for guests looking for a quiet respite from the hustle of downtown Charleston, but who still want quick access to great beaches, local shopping, outdoor activities and all that downtown has to offer.

A Spring 2020 opening is planned. Follow The Post House’s journey on Instagram. For more info on Basic Projects, visit http://basicprojects.us/.
