Press Release

Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach Services (OLMCOS), will hold its 3rd annual Fall Festival on Saturday, October 26th from 10 am to 1 pm, at its Johns Island location (1684 Brownswood Road, Johns Island). This event is free admission. Parking available at the St. John’s High School with shuttles to and from event location.

Bringing in more than 300 community members each year, Fall Festival is Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach’s largest event of the season. Families come and explore what the Sea Island community has to offer with local artisans, health and community booths, while the kids have a blast in the Kids Zone provided by St. John’s Parish Church, complete with face-painting, coloring stations, carnival-style games, animals and a bounce house. Lunch will be provided.

The Blood Connection will be on site for those wanting to donate blood; Roper St. Francis will be giving free flu shots; St. Johns Fire District will have their fire truck on display and discuss the importance of fire safety; Barrier Island Free Medical Clinic and Johns Island County Library will have resource information tables about the programs they offer; MUSC Hispanic Alliance will be conducting free blood pressure and blood glucose screenings.

Kids of all ages will have a great time with all the activities the Fall Festival has to offer! SC Audubon and Camp St. Christopher will showcase birds and reptiles to teach the community about these fascinating creatures; MUSC, CHARM Study will present brain teasers; Wild Ideaz will show how STEM activities can be incorporated into everyday things; Anytime Fitness is featuring fitness activities and challenges for kids.

“We have been in the community for 30 years, and we love when the community comes together in a safe environment to have a great time and foster community pride,” says Ericka Plater, executive director of Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach. “Our Fall Festival gives members of the community an opportunity to celebrate what makes the Sea Islands  – its people, its resources and its passion for a thriving community.
